On Monday Steven McLeod, of the McLeod Group, revealed he had sent a message to NHS Forth Valley saying they could have the use of his Airth Castle Hotel as an “overflow” facility if they required it.

Calling all NHS staff “superstars”, Mr McLeod said: “Although we have halted service temporarily we offered our largest hotel – with 125 bedrooms – to the NHS last week should things reach critical stage.”

In his message to NHS Forth Valley on March 18, he stated: “I own Airth Castle Hotel which is accessed over three floors with stairs and lifts and wide corridors. I would like to offer the hotel to NHS Forth Valley as an overflow.

“Good luck and best wishes to you all. Keep safe.”

NHS Forth Valley thanked him for his kind offer, saying: “Hopefully it won’t be necessary, but we will pass on your details to our control team who are managing our response to coronavirus.”

Last week Mr McLeod had been forced to close Airth Castle along with his other venues – including Glenbervie House Hotel, The Parsonage at Dunmore Park and The Royal Hotel Stirling – to comply with government guidelines.

He said: “I know this will be extremely disappointing to all our guests and members affected by this government requirement, however, as we know combating this outbreak and keeping everyone as safe as possible is our priority for the foreseeable future.

“We absolutely appreciate all the relationships and love we have built up with all our guests over the years and we really cannot wait to welcome you back to the hotels as soon as we are able to.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this outbreak and we would again like to extend our sincere gratitude to all NHS staff, emergency services, care workers and pharmacists who are working endlessly to fight his virus.”
