Talented writers of all ages had their efforts recognised at the fifth Writing Rammy awards.

Organised by staff at Falkirk Council’s library services, the competition encourages people to write poetry and fiction. This year there was the addition of a category for people to enter comics artwork.

On Monday evening a celebration of everyone’s hard work was held in the Hope Street library in Falkirk where the winners received their prizes – and also had an opportunity to read their work aloud.

The event was hosted by local writer Helen MacKinven, who has held a number of writing workshops to encourage people with their compositions.

Development librarian Lynne James is one of those who helped create the Writing Rammy. She said: “We began the Writing Rammy as a one-off fiction competition back in 2017, but we were so pleased by the response that we brought it back the following year and it has continued to grow.

"We’ve been really fortunate to have people share with us some incredible stories and poems – many of which have been quite personal and moving.”
