New Grangemouth biofuel plant could create 200 new jobs
An energy firm has given notice of its plans to create a biofuel production plant at the former Grangemouth Sawmills.
Syntech Biofuel lodged a proposal of application notice with Falkirk Council on Thursday, August 20 regarding its intention to bring the site, located in Earls Road, back into productive industrial use as a biofuel production and storage facility which would create 200 jobs.
The proposals involve the reuse and alteration of the existing industrial buildings and offices on the site, along with ancillary plant, structures, boundary treatment and associated infrastructure works.
Syntech produces biofuel refined from UK waste cooking oils that replaces fossil diesel in existing equipment without new engines, fleets or refuelling infrastructure.

The Grangemouth site will be an integral part of Syntech’s expanding domestic production. As well as the 200 jobs, the company expects the facility to support apprenticeships, skills development and opportunities in the local supply chain.
Syntech Biofuel CEO Tom Bingham said: “Grangemouth has generations of energy and industrial expertise, and we want to put a redundant site back to work with 200 jobs as part of Scotland’s industrial future.
"Our fuel is made in the UK from domestic waste, and it cuts carbon from the machinery businesses are already running today. We are at the very start of this process and we want to hear from the local community before we finalise our plans.”
Public exhibition drop-in events will be held at Grangemouth Community Education Unit, 69–71 Abbots Road, Grangemouth, on from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, October 7 and Tuesday, 27 October to give residents a chance to learn more about the development and ask questions.
