MSP demands action to lower Falkirk residents' energy bills
Falkirk East MSP Martyn Day has demanded the Labour Party to stand by their pledge to cut energy bills by £300.
He also urged them to ringfence Scottish oil and gas revenues for Scottish renewables and remove VAT on fuel.
His demands come after he learned energy bills in Scotland are forecast to rise to £2389 a year while the Labour Party is in power in Westminster and says that is £1275 higher than they promised voters.
Mr Day said: “People across Falkirk see an injustice every single day. Scotland is one of the most energy-rich countries in Europe, yet households and businesses

continue to face some of the highest energy bills.
“For decades, the wealth generated from Scotland’s natural resources has flowed to the Westminster Treasury instead of being invested for our future. Even now,
there is growing recognition that Scotland could have benefitted from an oil fund worth hundreds of billions of pounds.
“At the same time, families are paying over the odds at the petrol pump while communities face uncertainty over the future of key energy infrastructure and jobs.
Scotland’s vast energy potential should be delivering lower costs, greater energy security and long-term investment across our communities.
“The UK Government must urgently deliver on its commitment to cut bills by £300. Too many households are already having to make difficult choices, and with
Christmas fast approaching and winter energy demand increasing, many families will be deeply concerned about the pressure on their finances.
“The very least the Government can do is remove VAT on domestic energy bills, and ensure the revenues generated from Scotland’s energy resources are
reinvested in Scotland’s renewable future.”
